Out of the Classroom, Into the Forest: Reimagining Pacheco Elementary
Location: San Luis Obispo, CA
Children spend more time indoors and on screens than ever before -- in school is no exception. This digital age has caused side effects of mental health struggles, inattention, obesity, and increased nearsightedness, among others. This project reimagines Pacheco Elementary by integrating the natural environment into every aspect of the student's day. Through outdoor classrooms, school gardens, nature based and forest play, students' health and academic performance will improve simultaneously, all while strengthening their connections to each other and the land they live on.
