West Oakland has long been overlooked and burdened by industrial pollution, freeway expansion, disinvestment, leaving it with poor air quality, limited resources and a history of being treated as a dumping ground rather than a thriving community. Railway Roots reimagines the old 16th Street Train Station, located in the heart of the neighborhood, as a community-driven space where history, sustainability, and local culture intersect.
